Greyfest

My foster mom took me to Greyfest last weekend and I had a greyt time! Between this blog, my facebook page and the nice SEGA people who already knew me, I felt like a celebrity!

It was so much excitement I had to nap during part of it!

The best part was when we visited the vendor who was selling treats. I acted shy and didn't take any. Then when everyone was distracted, I stole one from the treat plate. I like it so much that when my foster mom was giving a sample to my foster brother, I stole another! My plan worked because my foster mom bought two bags! That means I don't have to share a bag with my foster brother. I get a whole bag just for me!!! YIPPEE!!

My foster mom also bought me a new leash and collar - She says I get to keep it when I go to my forever home because it is all mine!!

On this day in 1933, eight days after his inauguration, President Franklin D. Roosevelt gives his first national radio address or "fireside chat," broadcast directly from the White House.
Roosevelt began that first address simply: "I want to talk for a few minutes with the people of the United States about..." And then Mr. Deeds appeared. Roosevelt was so enchanted, the he invited Mr. Deeds to sit by the fireside.

You may have been confused by his voice in Mr. Deeds "Commercial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erLMkcMJioQ)" because he is such an incredible actor, but remember Mr. Deeds is British! So he is very happy to celebrate the Queen today.

Also do not be mistaken - of course, Mr. Deeds was there...

Mr. Deeds is such a sweet leaning boy. He loves to have visits from people. (So give Suzanne and Patty with placement a call so you can come by and see him!) Every time we see someone on a walk, he thinks that they are there to say hi to him. And he is always so pleased when they do.

And the big question is: Will you be the new Queen or King in Mr. Deeds' kingdom?

It has been a while since the last post for Mr. Deeds. You may have been wondering where he has been.

He has been on a bit of a holiday. Yes, it involved lots of sleep EVERY day. Yes, he intends to continue the sleep even though he is officially no longer on holiday.

All of the retired racers who go through adoption go through an extensive panel of tests for profiling. Mr. Deeds is Cat Tolerant, Small Dog Tolerant and good with kids.

We had an opportunity to profile test Mr. Deeds in category that is not standard. He is tolerant. Check it out:

Da Vinci notebook sells for over $5 million

On this day in 1980, American oil tycoon Armand Hammer pays $5,126,000 at auction for a notebook containing writings by the legendary artist Leonardo da Vinci.

The manuscript, written around 1508, was one of some 30 similar books da Vinci produced during his lifetime on a variety of subjects. It contained 72 loose pages featuring some 300 notes and detailed drawings, all relating to the common theme of water and how it moved. Experts have said that da Vinci drew on it to paint the background of his masterwork, the Mona Lisa. The text, written in brown ink and chalk, read from right to left, an example of da Vinci's favored mirror-writing technique. The painter Giuseppi Ghezzi discovered the notebook in 1690 in a chest of papers belonging to Guglielmo della Porto, a 16th-century Milanese sculptor who had studied Leonardo's work.

Mr. Deeds is doing very well in our home. He has been excellent with the cats since the day he arrived. Deeds is not a picky eater, has really gotten adept at the stairs, and loves to be loved. When we leave for any length of time we put him in the "mud room" with his foster brothers. This arrangement has worked well with him.

Deeds has much to offer to his future family. He is going to do best with someone who can give him lots of attention. In his blog we have mentioned all the places Deeds has been, but there is one place that is missing, his forever home. We look forward to the day when we can write, "Forever home? Of course, Mr. Deeds was there."

OTDIH - Chunnel makes breakthrough

Shortly after 11 a.m. on December 1, 1990, 132 feet below the English Channel, workers drill an opening the size of a car through a wall of rock. This was no ordinary hole--it connected the two ends of an underwater tunnel linking Great Britain with the European mainland for the first time in more than 8,000 years. Of course, Mr. Deeds was there.

Speaking of progress, Mr. Deeds has been making quite a lot of progress himself. We are not quite sure if peanut butter has made it to the "Likes" list but Bil-Jac is definitely there! Each day he seems more and more sure of himself and more and more willing to give his love to us. He is a very laid back hound, but he really enjoys going for walks.

To the moon...

On July 20, 1969 during the The Apollo 11 mission, the first humans landed on the Moon. Of course, Mr. Deeds was there.

The footprints left by the astronauts in the Sea of Tranquility are more permanent than most solid structures on Earth. Barring a chance meteorite impact, these impressions in the lunar soil will probably last for millions of years.

Mr. Deeds had a good visit with lots of friends for Thanksgiving dinner. Small dogs are now on his Tolerance List along with the cats.

Hopefully, you will realize that Mr. Deeds is the dog for you long before the footprints fade because he is one in a million.

On this day November 24, 1859, On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, a groundbreaking scientific work by British naturalist Charles Darwin, is published in England. Darwin's theory argued that organisms gradually evolve through a process he called "natural selection."

Deeds and History

One of the great things about fostering is that we get to meet many fascinating greyhound characters. It is a little known fact that most greyhounds have history and accomplishments that go beyond the track. For example, so far in our fostering journey we have hosted a greyhound scientist and poet. At times it takes a while to get a foster to open up about his or her past, but when they do it is worth the wait. Enter Mr. Deeds.

Mr. Deeds and I were playing poker today, and while collecting his winnings from a full house he mentioned offhand that Winston Churchill fancied a good game of poker from time to time. Intrigued, I inquired if he was speaking of the historical Churchill or of a greyhound by that racing name. Deeds explained that although he raced in Florida he emigrated from Britain in 1954. During the war he served as a message runner on the Western Front. During the Battle of Britain he served as an air raid warning siren, rooing at the approach of German bombers.

Skeptical, I asked for proof of his claims, and he produced this photo. Not only is Deeds a sweet and wonderful greyhound looking for his forever home, he is also rich in history and experience. Can you make him part of your future?

Mr. Deeds, or Deeds as we call him, came to live with us this past Saturday.

Deeds is a sweet red and white male with beautiful amber eyes . He gets along fine with our cats and our 2 greyhounds. Deeds likes to be around people. We took him on a trip to PetSmart and he readily accepted pets and attention from both adults and kids.

Deeds has been shy of the stairs, but he has made progress in the past few days. He has started to go up and down them with much more confidence and less prodding. He enjoys pigs ear and a nice soft bed.

This hound is still blossoming, but the inner sweetness is evident for all to see. With a little patience and love he is going to make someone a wonderful boy.

Deeds has already discovered that cat beds make a soft landing spot in a pinch.
